Belle Haven, VA 23306
Laurence John "Larry" Trala, 86, husband of the late Joan Vincent Trala and a resident of Jamesville, VA, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his residence.
A native of Newcastle, DE, he was the son of the late John and Laura Trala. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, graduate of Goldy Beacom College, and retired from the Ford Motor Company. He and his wife were the former owners of Joan & Larry's Drive-In.
In addition to his family, his proudest accomplishment was serving the community. He served as Mayor and councilman of the Town of Exmore, and was past chair and long-time member of the Northampton County Board of Supervisors. He was a member of many boards and commissions including president of the Accomack-Northampton Housing and Redevelopment Corporation, Northampton Transportation District Commission, the Disability Services Board, 911 Commission, ES Chamber of Commerce (Harvest Fest Committee), the Literacy Council, Shore Memorial Hospital, SPCA, and YMCA.
Trala was a member of Broadwater Lodge, Khedive Temple Shriners, Eastern Shore Shrine Club, Scottish Rite 32 degree, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4856, Exmore Moose Lodge, and Exmore Rotary Club, and was a past president and past governor's representative of the Exmore Ruritan Club, E.S Shore Christian Businessman's Association, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by four children, Aleisa L. Pitt (Gary), of Belleville, MI, Larry J. Trala Jr. of Ocean City, MD, George V. "Buddy" Trala (Christy), of Ocean City, Laura B. Trala (fiance, David Carlin), of Jamesville; six grandchildren, Tina Trala, Kyle Pitt (Jill), Adam Pitt (Kat), Shawn Trala, Brandon Trala, Brandy (Rodney) Lang; and nine great-grandchildren. He also was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Stanley and John; and sisters, Sophie Morrell and Helen Dunagan.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 26, 2017 at noon at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverends Paul Oh and Alex Joyner officiating. Interment will be in Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
