Kiernan Mayhew

September 30, 1928 — June 9, 2014

Edgar Kiernan Mayhew, 85, husband of Christine Hubbard Mayhew and a resident of Eastville, VA, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Pittsylvania County, VA, he was the son of the late Edgar Mayhew and the late Belle Quarles Mayhew. He was a retired Virginia State Police Trooper and member of Cheriton United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by two children, Kiernan Hubbard Mayhew of Chester, VA, Annette Mayhew Bailey and her husband, Bill, of Suffolk, VA; three granddaughters, Megan Bailey of Raleigh, NC, Jessica Bailey of Raleigh and Lindsey B. Holman and her husband, Peter, of Charlottesville, VA. He was predeceased by a sister, Athleen Mayhew Adams and a brother, George Lee Mayhew. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Cheriton United Methodist Church with State Police Honors with Reverend Patricia Money officiating. Interment will be Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Gretna Burial Park with Military Honors. Family will join friends at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Memorials may be made to Cheriton United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Jo Ann Heneghan, P. O. Box 297, Cheriton, VA 23316.
