Kenneth Edward Butler, 68, husband of Kathleen Flatley Butler and a resident of Cape Charles, VA, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, VA. Originally from Hazlet, New Jersey, he found the Eastern Shore to be his home after a tour at the Cape Charles Air Force Base in 1980. Ken was a proud retired veteran with an illustrious 23 year career in the United States Air Force, served over 15 years with the Northampton County Department of Social Services as an eligibility worker, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 56 in Cheriton, he had a passion for chicken farming, foreign languages of Korean and Russian, reading, and he was also an Eagle Scout and mentored many scouts as a Scoutmaster.
Ken is survived by the following to cherish his memory, unending wit, and loving heart: his beloved wife, Kathleen Flatley Butler; his 3 children from previous marriages, Benjamin Samson Butler (Kimberly) of Leesburg, VA, Jeanine Olivia Pike (Roger Jr) of Cape Charles, VA, and Everett Randolph Butler (fiancé Aimee Burton) of Olathe, KS; his 7 grandchildren Cayela Butler of Olathe, KS, Benjamin Samson Butler, Jr. of Leesburg, VA, Sean Pike of Norfolk, VA, Allie Gaskin (Josh) of Savannah, GA, Dustin Pike, Jeanette Pike, and William Pike of Cape Charles, VA; his 2 great grand-children Bobby and Jordan Gaskin of Savannah, GA; a niece, Susan Ben-Zvy, ?a grandniece, Rachel Ben-Zvy and grandnephew Josh Ben-Zvy from Eatontown, NJ and a host of other friends and family who loved him and were touched by his compassion, kindness, and understanding. He was predeceased by his loving family of his second wife, Bessie Jeanette Butler, his parents, Bradford and Mildred Butler of Hazlet, New Jersey, his brother, Bradford Butler (Jr.) of Falls Church, VA and his sister, Joan Snyder of Eatontown, NJ.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 13, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with Rawlings Scott officiating. Interment will be Thursday, December 13, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, 1325 W. Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, TX 75038.
