June Parker Miles

June Parker Miles, 81, wife of the late Richard "Byrdie" Miles and a resident of Exmore, VA for many years, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. Born in Northampton County, VA, she was the daughter of the late I. H. Parker and the late Myrtle Shrieves Parker. Mrs. Miles was a music graduate of Western Maryland College in 1955 and devoted her life to others by teaching piano and voice students over a period of 61 years. During her early musical career, she taught public school music at Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne, IN. Upon returning to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, she was a music teacher at Broadwater Academy for 13 years. She was active in the National Guild of Piano Teachers. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Franktown United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.
She is survived by a son, Kevin Parker Bloxom of Gloucester, VA; a daughter, Kimberly Bloxom Savage and her husband, Bob, of Painter, VA; a step-daughter, Scarlet Miles Hillman of Pocomoke City, MD; a brother, Kendall Parker and his wife, Jean Marion Parker, of Hampton, VA; three grandchildren, Kalyn Blaire Turner, Kevin Parker Bloxom, Jr., William Kyle Bloxom and a great granddaughter, Arianna Blaire Bloxom. She was predeceased by her brother, Creston Parker and sister-in-law, Catherine J. Parker.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Franktown United Methodist Church with Reverends Judith Worthington and Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Franktown Cemetery. Family will join friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastern Shore Public Library, P.O. Box 360, Accomac, VA. 23301.
