Joseph Henry Volz

Joseph Henry Volz, 82, husband of Mary Adams Volz and a resident of Exmore, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at his residence. A native of Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Charles J. Volz and Lydia M. Boerner. Mr. Volz owned Center Chevrolet in Exmore until his retirement. He was a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church, a U. S. Navy WWII veteran, and graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park with a degree in electrical engineering. Other than his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth S. Volz of Painter, VA, Carolyn V. Spalding and her husband Greg of Lebanon, KY, four grandchildren, Melissa H. Elliott, R. Todd Hastings, Sara E. Cherrix, Courtney M. Spalding; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Mary Elliott; three brothers, Charles Volz and his wife Jeanne of Piney River, VA, J. Fred Volz and his wife Katherine of Brevard, N.C., George Volz and his wife Mary of Baldwin, MD; a sister, Alma Smith of Cockeysville, MD; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. from the Doughty Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Tanner and Mr. Burleigh Killmon officiating. Interment will be private. A reception will be held after the service at the Belle Haven United Methodist.
