John H. Price, Jr. died peacefully at home after a long illness on February 5, 2015, at age 88. He was the only son of John and Elizabeth Price of Merchantville, NJ. He graduated from Merchantville High School. He spent many summers in the bay and marsh areas of Eastern New Jersey. He attended Western Maryland and Tufts Colleges. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served until 1946. John married Elizabeth (Betty) Sanborn, a Tufts graduate. Betty preceded John in death. John joined Pittsburgh Corning Corp. while in New Jersey. He held many positions of increasing responsibility nationally and internationally. He retired from P.C.C. in Pittsburgh as Vice President of International Operations and Finance and Corporate Secretary. In Pittsburgh John was a member of the University Club and the Duquesne Club. He was very active in the World Affairs Council, serving as its Secretary. After retiring, he and Betty moved to Onancock, VA. They loved the Shore area. They became involved in charitable and environmental causes. He was especially proud of his work with the C.B.E.S. and helped found the local River Keeper Project. His most rewarding achievement was being made an honorary member of the Waterman's Association. He loved and respected this group and often repeated their tales. After Betty's passing in 1999, John married Helen Owens of Onancock. They had many happy years together. They moved from Virginia to Cambridge, MD and later to Londonderry in Easton, MD. John is survived by his wife, Helen; children John III of Richmond, VA, Nancy Hunsberger of Columbus, OH, Barbara Price of Grass Valley, CA, and two grandchildren, Thomas of Richmond and Elizabeth Ellis of Columbus. He was predeceased by a third grandchild, 1st Lt. Timothy Price who was killed in Baghdad, Iraq. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore, VA with Reverend Philip Godwin officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's memory to Compass Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centerville, MD 21617 or The Salvation Army, Donation Processing Ctr, Church Creek, MD 21622.
