John Ellis Drewer Sr., better known as Jack, 78, husband of Joan Jester Drewer and a resident of Belle Haven, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 18, 2009 after a short illness. He was the son of the late John Henry Drewer and Mildred Drummond Drewer. Mr. Drewer was a farmer all his life, still in the process of preparing the land for spring planting. He graduated from Central High School and Goldey-Beacom Business School. Other than his wife, Jack is survived by two children, Gayle D. Shaw and her husband David of Craddockville, Virginia and John Ellis Drewer Jr. of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Troy Jay Farlow and his wife Dr. Laura Kerbin of Williamsburg, Virginia and Amanda Drewer Shaw of Charleston, South Carolina; a sister, Anne D. Sterling and her husband Bill of Cedarview, Virginia; three nieces and four nephews; eleven great nieces and nephews, recently a great-great nephew; and many special cousins. He was predeceased by a brother and business partner, Newman Henry Drewer. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at Fairview Lawn Cemetery Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Kenneth Armstrong officiating. Pallbearers are Bill Sterling, Lee Lamm, John Campbell, Bill Sterling Jr., Newman Craig Drewer, Booker Coston, and Seymour Parker III. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Craddockville United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. June Custis, Post Office Box 66, Craddockville, Virginia 23341.
