John A. Bell, 62, husband of Winnie P. Bell and a resident of Cape Charles, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004 at his residence. A native of Montclair, NJ and reared in Concord, MA, Mr. Bell was the son of the late Gilbert E. Bell and the late Patricia Lamar Young. He was employed in proprietary food development. A Friend Quaker, he was former President of the Northampton High School PTA. Mr. Bell was an entrepreneur having planned and managed three startup ventures, directed counter trade for Pepsi Co., managed European operation for Staley Co., and traveled extensively overseas. He played professional baseball for the Chicago Cubs. He worked in the food industry for over 40 years developing proprietary products which we still consume today. Mr. Bell moved to the Eastern Shore some 20 years ago and while not born here he was definitely from here. Mr. Bell was extremely active with youth soccer and has set up a trust to benefit the future growth of soccer on the Shore. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2pm at Sunset Beach Inn Resort Conference Room. Other than his wife, Mr. Bell is survived by two sons, Gilbert Eaton Bell II and Daniel Robert Bell; a grandson, Frederick Norman Bell; a brother, Frederick Bell; two sisters, Margaret C. Bell and Tina Midget Bell; a grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Wilkins-Doughtly Funeral Home, Cape Charles.
