Jeter Guy Lawson

Jeter Guy Lawson, 49, a resident of Exmore, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Willis Wharf, Virginia he is the son of Florence Moore Lawson of Willis Wharf and the late Robert L. Lawson Jr. Mr. Lawson was Mayor of the Town of Exmore for the past 14 years and served on the Town Council for two terms and also served as Police Commissioner. He was a Fire Apparatus Operator for Norfolk City Fire Department for twenty-nine years and a Life Member and Past Fire Chief for the Community Fire Company of Exmore, and member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Other than his mother, he is survived by three loving daughters, Melanie Lawson Hintz and her husband Doug of Virginia Beach, Va., Dana Louise Lawson and her fiancé John of Melfa, Va., Jenna Lynn Lawson of Exmore; a brother, Robert L. Lawson III and his wife Ann of Bells Neck, Va.; three grandchildren, Jace Dennis Diamond of Melfa, Reghan Kathryn Hintz of Virginia Beach, Va., and Evan Scott Diamond of Melfa; a nephew, Robert L. Lawson IV of Bells Neck. Funeral Service with Firefighter Honors will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Family will join friends at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore Friday evening from 7 to 8:30.
