Jerry F. Miles

Jerry Franklin Miles, 73, husband of Joyce Carpenter Miles and a resident of Cape Charles, VA, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Parksley, VA, he was the son of the late Ralph Miles and Mabel Shrieves Miles. Before retiring, he was a manager of Bayshore Markets. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Parksley, and past president of Cape Charles Lions Club. After graduating from Parksley High School, he played AAA Baseball for the Baltimore Orioles. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sabra DeWitt of Cape Charles, VA, and Susie Bumann and her husband Fred of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren, Amy Jones and her husband Will of Exmore, VA, Gabriel Bumann of Chesapeake; and one great-granddaughter, Haleh Green of Exmore. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with Dr. Charles Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cape Charles Cemetery. Family will join friends one hour prior to the service.
