Jean Nauman Savage, 83, wife of the late John Thomas Savage and a resident of Westminster Canterbury, Virginia Beach, Virginia, formerly of Belle Haven, Virginia, died peacefully on October 17, 2013. Born March 7, 1930 in Cresco, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Viola Nauman. Mrs. Savage attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey graduating with a degree in organ performance and voice. After college, she accepted her first professional position as minister of music at Epworth United Methodist Church in Exmore, Virginia. There she oversaw a thriving music and choral program with fellow Westminster graduate Sally Bedsworth. She also taught piano privately and presented her students in public recitals during the 1960s. Returning to school after the birth of her two children, Mrs. Savage pursued a master's degree in education and early childhood development. She taught in the Northampton County school system for many years. In 1955, she married Eastern Shore native John Thomas Savage of Belle Haven where they lived until her husband's death in 2006. She was active in the Junior Women's Club of The Eastern Shore and a long-time member of Epworth United Methodist Church. At the time of her death she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach. She is survived by a daughter, Mina Savage Turner and son in law, Claude Albert Turner, III, of Eastville, Virginia; a son, John Thomas Savage, Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware; two beloved grandsons, Claude Albert Turner, IV and John Elijah Turner, both of Eastville and three brothers, Paul Nauman of Pennsylvania, George Nauman of Florida, and Frank Nauman of Delaware. She was predeceased by two brothers, John Nauman and Charles Nauman. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church with Reverend Caroline A. Jinkins officiating. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held in early November at Westminster Canterbury, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Epworth United Methodist Church, P.O.
