Jean Bulman Ashby Bell

December 10, 1923 — May 30, 2010

Jean Bulman Ashby Bell, 86, wife of Robert I. Bell and a resident of Belle Haven, Virginia, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Wachapreague, she was the daughter of the late Leon S. Bulman and Elizabeth Byrd Bulman. She was a retired bookkeeper for Peoples Trust Bank. She was a member of the Belle Haven Presbyterian Church and a member of the Presbyterian Women Knitting Group, Northampton Chapter #2 O.E.S. and Past Senior Regent and member of the Women of the Moose. She was a dedicated volunteer for Occohannock Elementary School Reading Program and the Eastern Shore Habitat for Humanity.

Other than her husband, she is survived by eight children, Karen Taylor of Parksley, Va, Mickey Ashby and his wife Vicki of Pocomoke City, Md., Marsha A. Killmon and her husband Tim of Wachapreague, Va., Chris Ashby and his wife Debbie of Belle Haven, Va., Brenda B. Fogle and her husband Greg of Belle Haven, Va., Diane B. Winfree and her husband Jack of Duncanville, Ala., Becky B. Crockett and her husband Chuck of Virginia Beach, Va., Robin B. Parks of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Evelyn Hodgson of PA; 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery with Rev. Raymond McGarr officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore Tuesday evening from 7 to 8. Memorial contributions may be made to Belle Haven Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 329, Belle Haven, VA 23306 or to the Eastern Shore Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1299, Exmore, VA 23350.
