James Douglas "Bootsie" Horton, 78, husband of Mollye T. Horton and a resident of Birdsnest, VA, formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late James G. Horton and the late Ethel Seay Horton. He was the retired owner of J. G. Horton & Son Construction Company, a Methodist, and a caller for the Riptides Square Dance Club of Virginia Beach, and the Friendship Squares Club of Cape Charles, VA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Phil Horton and his wife, Pam, of Cape Charles, Ric Horton and his wife, Marci, of Virginia Beach, Gayle Hart and her husband, Pat, of Virginia Beach, and Bryan Horton and his wife, Charmin, of Painter, VA; a brother, Howard Horton and his wife, Suzanne, of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church in Exmore with Rev. L. Raymond McGarr officiating.
