James Harper Hopkins, 80, husband of Rita Marie Bielicki Hopkins and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 at his residence. A native of Wardtown, Virginia, he was the son of the late Burleigh Wescott and Hazel Thaddeus Martin Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was a retired U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. with 20 years of service, member of V.F.W. Post 4856 and the Air Force Sergeants Association. Other than his wife, he is survived by six children, Julita A. Wood and her husband Ray of Cherrystone, Walter R Hopkins and his wife Lou of Cheriton, Burleigh Scott Hopkins and his wife Cindy of Chesterfield, Anita Aylesworth and her husband Larue of Gibbs Wood, NC, James Hopkins of Cherrystone and Suzi Wooten and her husband Craig of Jacksonville, FL; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Hopkins was predeceased by two brothers, Thaddeus B. Hopkins and Joshua C. Hopkins and four sisters, Thelma H. Ward, Montrue H. Moore, Iris H. Bundick and Alice H. Mapp. Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 11:00 am from the graveside of Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Jack D. Pruitt officiating.
