James John Fluharty

July 12, 1941 — June 23, 2011

James John Fluharty, 69, of Cape Charles, VA passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Media, PA, he was the son of the late Bill and Mae Fluharty. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, traveling the world while serving as an electrician and returned home to work for James J. Skelly, Inc., his family's road contracting business for many years. Mr. Fluharty was once an active volunteer for Media Little League, Media Youth Club and the Media Rotary. He also served as Chairman of the Media Recreation Commission. Mr. Fluharty was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking as well. His love of fishing and the water took him to Cape Charles where he resided one mile from both the bay and the ocean. In recent years, he took great joy in spending time with his three grandsons. He is survived by a son, J. John Fluharty of Washington, DC, a daughter, Jennifer A. Jamieson and her husband, Ian, of Wallingford, PA; three grandsons, Jack, Owen and Charlie; two brothers, William J. Fluharty and his wife, Regina and Thomas L. Fluharty and his wife, Kathy; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Desmond. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 9:30 AM at Nativity B.V.M., Media, PA with a Mass to follow at 10:30 AM.
