James Burrus, 79, husband of the late Rosa Raquel Burrus and a resident of Exmore, VA, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, VA. A native of New York, he was the son of the late Barber Burrus, Sr. and the late Naomi Custis Burrus. James was a jack-of-all-trades, he worked in carpentry, at Bayshore Concrete, Kempsville Lumber Company, Riverside, Virginia Tech Eastern Shore AREC, and cleaned ANEC with his friend, Ernie.
He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Elena Torres Cintron and her husband, Juan Andrade, of Exmore; four handsome sons, James Burrus and his wife, Tanya, Alberto Torres of Belle Haven, VA, Victor Torres of Delmar, DE, and Angel Bodden and his wife, Veronica, of Florida; three brothers, Barber Burrus, Jr. and his wife, Beverly, William Burrus and his wife, Emma, and Freddie Burrus and his wife, Lillian; a sister, Linda Myler; seven wonderful grandchildren, Carmen and her husband, Eduardo, Jose, Juan Jr., Bryan, Sergio, Joel, and Victoria; two great grandchildren, Alexander and Azuri; and numerous nieces and nephews including his special niece, Cora Boswell. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Boswell and Josephine Burrus, and two brothers, Herbert Burrus, and Norman Burrus.
A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with Father J. Michael Breslin officiating. Family will join friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
