Iris Bell Brooks, 81, wife of the late Howard E. Brooks Sr. and a resident of Denton, MD, formerly of Cape Charles, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Homestead Manor Retirement Home in Denton, MD. A native of Eastville, she was the daughter of the late Hilton A. Bell and the late Naomi Elliott Bell. Mrs. Brooks was a retired switchboard operator for G.L. Webster and C&P Telephone Company. She and her sister were owners of the Parry Shop in Cape Charles. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Cape Charles Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Rev. Dr. Howard Edward Brooks Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Elkton, MD, three grandsons, H. Edward Brooks III of Rocky Mount, NC, Andrew William Brooks of Baltimore, MD, and James Hilton Brooks of Denver, CO. Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by a daughter, Iris Ann Brooks. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 23, 2009 at 1:00 pm from the graveside in the Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Paul H. Sherwood officiating. Family will join friends Monday morning from 10:30 to 12 noon at the Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home in Cape Charles.
