Henry Irving Buchanan, Jr. passed away in Woodbridge, Virginia Wednesday, February, 13, 2008 at the age of 90. Born in Birdsnest, Virginia, his parents were Anna Woodruff Godwin Buchanan and Henry Irving Buchanan, Sr. of Cape Charles, Virginia. Mr. Buchanan graduated from Cape Charles High School in 1935 and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he worked as a civilian at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center until his retirement in 1973. Surviving family members include his wife of 67 years, Jane Adams Buchanan; his son, Henry Irving Buchanan, III, and his wife, Deborah, and their sons, Justin Britt and James Alexander; and his daughter, Susan Buchanan Chambers and her husband, Gary. Mr. Buchanan was a member of the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Virginia and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Norfolk. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Cape Charles Cemetery with the Reverend Ernest L. Gardner officiating.
