Groverteen Smith Hemphill

Groverteen Smith Hemphill, 74, wife of the late Johnny R. Hemphill and a resident of Exmore, VA, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Exmore, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Smith and the late Katherine M. Smith.

She is survived by seven children, Johnny Ray Hemphill, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca Ann, of Keller, VA, William Hemphill and his wife, Laura Mae, of Machipongo, VA, Donald Wayne Hemphill, Sr. and his wife, Sarah, of South Carolina, Patricia Lynn Oakley and her husband, Lee, of Cape Charles, VA, Jeanie Marie Wood and her husband, Andy, of Greenbush, VA, Carol Lynn Hemphill of Weirwood, VA, Katie Elizabeth Hemphill of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Phyllis Robbins of Exmore, Faye Robertson of Suffolk, VA; one brother, Pat Smith of Exmore; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Belle Haven Cemetery with Pastor Rob Kelly officiating. Family will join friends at Doughty Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
