Graham Powell Davis

FRANKTOWN - Graham Powell "Skip" Davis died at his home November 8, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Fleet Gregory Davis; a daughter, Holland Davis Braden of Richmond, Va.; a son, Hugh Wheelwright Davis II of Raleigh, NC; a step-daughter, Sarah Ambler Mangold of Kilauea, HI; a step-son, John Jaquelin Ambler III of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Peter Tucker Braden and Christian Wheelwright Braden and three step-grandchildren, Asher Mangold, Jesse Mangold and Seth Mangold. He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh Wheelwright Davis and Florence Brookes Davis, a sister, Dana Davis Roeser and two half-brothers, Walpole Davis and Horace Walpole Davis. Born August 23, 1927, Skip was graduated from Woodberry Forest School and Virginia Military Institute. He entered investment banking with Scott, Horner & Mason in Lynchburg and then moved to Willis, Kenny & Ayres, Inc. in Richmond. A native of Virginia Beach, he returned to the area in the mid 1950's and went to work for Investment Corporation of Virginia. He soon became President and CEO of Investment Corp., where he remained until the firm was acquired by Scott & Stringfellow, Inc. Skip was a Member of The Norfolk German Club, an Honorary Member of The Princess Anne Country Club and a former member of The Virginia Club, Norfolk. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 22, at noon at Mill Pond Point, Franktown, Virginia in the family cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Robert H. Patterson, Jr. Scholarship Fund, VMI Foundation, Lexington, Va. 24450, Woodberry Forest School Amici Fund, 402 Woodberry Station, Woodberry Forest, Va. 22989 or Hospice of the Eastern Shore, P. O. Arrangements made by Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore. *Directions to Mill Pond Point: On route 13 approximately 26 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, turn left at the traffic light in Nassawadox onto Rogers Drive (route 606), go approximately 1 mile to stop sign. Turn left onto Bayside Road (route 618) and drive one mile and turn right onto Wellington Neck Road (route 609). Go .3 miles and turn left at cemetery onto Gunter Drive. Follow shell lane to the end.
