George Herbert Meeker Starr

George Herbert Meeker Starr, 84, of Cape Charles, formerly of Cape May, New Jersey, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 at Shore Memorial Hospital. A native of Cape May, Mr. Starr was the son of the late Dr. R. Walter and Marguerite Rolph Starr. He was a Merchant Marine engineering officer veteran with 27 years service, receiving Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bars. After retirement from the Merchant Marines, he worked for the Atlantic City School System as supervisor of building and grounds. Mr. Starr attended the Cape Charles Baptist Church. Survivors include three children, Kimberley Meeker Starr, Todd Marshall Starr, both of Cape Charles, and Anne Michele Maher and her husband Paul of Cape May, New Jersey; two granddaughters, Katherine Starr Wendell of Cape Charles, and Ashley Rae Seamans of Shamokin, PA, and a special friend, Linda Pittman of Virginia Beach. Mr. Starr was predeceased by a brother, Robert Walter Starr Jr., and a granddaughter, Meggan Anne Seamans. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Cape Charles Baptist Church with the Pastor Russell Goodrich officiating.
