George N. Foster, 78, of Hacks Neck, VA (formerly of Bloomsbury, NJ) passed away from life to life everlasting on 9/13/2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce, and their 3 children and spouses, Jeff and Lisa (Danville, PA), Karen and Craig Hart (Saylorsburg, PA), and John and Beth (Pompton Plains, NJ). In addition, he is survived by his sister, Fay Kimball (Chambersburg, PA), 8 grandchildren (Sarah, Ben, Paige, Emily, Abby, Rebecca, Jacob, and David), and 1 great granddaughter (Kellie).
Born and raised in Newburyport, MA, he was the son of the late George N. Foster, Jr. and the late Helen Landford Foster. He attended the University of New Hampshire and then Virginia Tech, where he received a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Union Carbide (Bound Brook, NJ) for his 37 year career in the polymer science field, receiving numerous patents and teaching engagements for his work. George and Joyce retired in 1999 and moved to the eastern shore of VA, where they continued to operate the Mason Beach Fruit Farm, with recent help from Don in the last few years.
George was a life long member of the American Chemical Society, NRA, and actively supported youth outdoor education and sports, like the Boy Scouts, Accomack County 4H Shooting Educational Club, and the NOAAWIVA Sportsmen Club. He was an avid recreational fisherman and hunter, member of Powelton Presbyterian Church, and everyone's "grand-pop". He will be greatly missed by family, friends, neighbors, and their dog Maggie.
A "celebration of life" memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Powelton Presbyterian Church in Wachapreague, VA with Rev. James William Moore officiating.
