Geneva Pauline Pate

October 10, 1931 — October 8, 2007

Geneva Pauline Pate, 75, of Chester, Virginia, joined our Lord on Monday, October 8, 2007. Born on October 10, 1931 in Epps, Louisiana, she lived a full life raising her two children and then following a devastating auto accident, she raised her three grandchildren and cared for her oldest son. She is the daughter of the late Owen Railey of Epps, Louisiana and Edna Platt of Tyler, Texas. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian Stewart of Littleton, Colorado and Jo Ann Tilton, of Tyler, Texas. She is predeceased by one brother, Leo Railey. Geneva was married to Charles R. Pate who passed away in 1990. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Thelma Ramsey of Chester, VA and Betty Pafford of Spruce Pine, NC. She is predeceased by one sister-in-law, Evelyn Bynum of Disputanta, VA. Her oldest son, James Curtis Mobley, Jr. and his wife, Lynda O'Day Mobley predeceased her in 2000 and 1973, respectively. She is survived by her son Gerald W. Mobley (Jerry) and his wife Deborah Mobley of Belle Haven, VA; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Jeffrey Brent Mobley and his partner Denise Hartbarger and daughter Konner all of Chester, VA; James Todd Mobley and his wife Elizabeth (Liz) and their children, James and Richard, of Midlothian, VA; and Julia Mobley Schlueter and her husband Mark Schlueter and their children, James, Nathan, Noah, and Abigail of Ashland, VA. Geneva had many friends. She loved her hairdresser Arlene and kidding with Julia; the pharmacists and technicians at the Kmart Pharmacy and her many friends at Shoney's Restaurant, all of Chester. Each one added love and laughter to her life. She had great respect and appreciation for her physician, Dr. Brian Port and staff of Chester Family Physicians. It was Geneva's request that her remains be cremated and no services be held. She also requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in her memory to Occohannock on the Bay Camp and Retreat Center, 9403 Camp Lane, Belle Haven, VA 23306. She spent her final months with her son and daughter-in-law at this lovely place and came to love it and its ministries. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.doughtyfuneralhome.com. Arrangements made by Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore, VA.
