Gene Franklin Simpson, Sr. of Exmore, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia. Gene was born July 25, 1935, to Herbert L. & Madeline K. Langdon. Gene served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Coast Guard as a Radioman 2nd Class. He retired from the government printing office in Washington D.C., when he then became the owner/operator of Simpson Printing, located in Exmore, Virginia.
Gene was an avid singer/songwriter who played the guitar Chet Atkins style. He and his wife, Betty, recorded music in North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee.
Gene is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Jane Simpson; 4 sons, Gene F. Simpson, Jr., Barry K. Simpson, Henry Dean Carter, and Darrin L. Carter; a sister, Lorraine P. Edmonson. He is predeceased by his son, Roger Neal Simpson; father-in-law and mother-in law, Clyde B. and Inez T. King.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment to follow at Belle Haven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shore Christian Academy, 36076 Lankford Highway, Belle Haven, Virginia 23306.
