Francis Edward Wendell

Francis Edward Wendell, 87, husband of Bernice DeJarnette Wendell and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. A native of Cape Charles, he was the son of the late Frank and Katherine Glaxner Wendell. Mr. Wendell was owner and president of Wendell Distributing Company, formerly Royal Crown Bottling Company of Cape Charles. He has been an Anheuser-Busch distributor since 1933. Mr. Wendell graduated from Cape Charles High School and Smithdeal Massey Business College. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Virginia Soft Drink Association, Cape Charles Lions Club with 57 years of service, Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association, Cape Charles School Board for 39 years, serving as chairman for 29 years, former member of the Cape Charles Chamber of Commerce, former member of the Cape Charles Advisory Board for Sovran Bank and Cape Charles Fire Department. Other than his wife, survivors include three children, Virginia Wendell Gibson of Ashland, VA, Francis Edward Wendell Jr. of Cape Charles and Elizabeth Wendell Harman and her husband Brian of Cape Charles, four grandchildren, Jonathan Gibson, Gregory Harman, Andrew Harman and Katie Wendell. Funeral mass will be conducted Sunday November 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the St. Charles Catholic Church with Father J. Michael Breslin officiating. Interment will follow in the Cape Charles Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held Saturday at 6:30 pm in St. Charles Catholic Church.
