Frances Steelman Clark

August 14, 1933 — September 10, 2013

Frances Steelman Clark, 80, wife of the late Warren R. Clark, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Atlanta, GA. She had resided in Atlanta for three years, where she was loved and cared for by many. Formerly of Cheriton, VA, she was born on Chincoteague Island and reared on Cherrystone Creek. She was the daughter of the late John David and Jeanette Carter Steelman. Frances was a registered nurse and retired from Northampton-Accomack Shore Memorial Hospital in 1995. She also taught nursing at the Bessie B. Anderson School of Nursing during her career. Frances was a proud graduate of the Delaware School of Nursing in Wilmington, DE. She leaves behind her children, Jan Clark of Craddockville, VA, and Jay Clark, Philip Sloan and family of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Rose Marie Rippon of Eastville, VA; two granddaughters, Laurie Laird (husband Brian) of Belle Haven, VA and Katie Lewis (John Robinson) of Cheriton, VA. Frances was blessed with five great grandsons who have been fortunate to have known their great grandmother's love. In return she found great joy in receiving their love and watching them grow. Christopher, Quincy, Bradyn, Chayce and Preston all loved their Nan-Nan and realize she still lives in their hearts forever. Other survivors include two nephews who lovingly called her "Aunt Mick", John Lee Rippon and Tom "Rip" Rippon, both who had a special place in her heart. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Ann Steelman. Her family is forever grateful for her many friends and caregivers for seeing her through her last years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September, 21, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore with Reverend Tammy Estep officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be sent to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite #3, Onancock, VA 23417 or The Herman C. and Carrie W. Watson Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 187, Onley, VA 23418.
