Floyd Elkins Reynolds, Sr., 78, husband of the late Sally George Reynolds and a resident of Oyster, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the home of his daughter, Sherri Reynolds-Brown in Virginia Beach. A native of Oyster, he was the son of the late Risdon Joshua Reynolds and the late Abbie Jester Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds lived with his daughter, Sherri, since the death of his wife in May of 2005. Mr. Reynolds had worked as a waterman on the Eastern Shore and had proudly served in the United States Army from 1946-1949. In the last three years of his retirement, he found great pleasure in volunteering at the Potter's House/Urban Ministries Outreach Center in Virginia Beach. Mr. Reynolds is survived by his four children, Abbie Phipps of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Vicki Lovell of Pass Christian, MS, Sherri Reynolds-Brown of Virginia Beach, VA, and Floyd Reynolds, Jr. of Williamsburg, VA; a sister, Faye R. Doughty of Eastville; two grandchildren, Paul J. Phipps and Corey Bowen,and one great grandchild, Shelia Bowen. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Travis Chapel United Methodist Church in Oyster with the Rev. Nathan Decker and Rev. Ted David officiating. The family would like to especially thank the Virginia Beach Sentara Hospice Unit for their caring assistance in the last month of Mr. Reynolds' illness and would encourage well wishers to make memorial contributions to this fine organization.
