Eugene Hampton

Eugene Randolph Hampton, 87, husband of Patricia Hampton, and a resident of Machipongo, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Washington state, he was the son of the late Thomas Hampton and the late Margaret Fiedlev. He was a retired geologist with the United States Geologic Survey and served many years with Citizens for A Better Eastern Shore, Virginia Eastern Shorekeeper, and as a Northampton County appointee to the Eastern Shore of Virginia Groundwater Committee. He was a Fellow of the Geological Society of America. After his retirement, he kept himself busy with his garden, fruit trees, and civic involvements.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son Michael Hampton of Commerce City, Colorado, his nephew Max Merlich of Powell Butte, Oregon, and many friends around the United States and the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
