Emily Walter Eichelberger, 95, a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore. She was born November 23, 1917 in Quinby, VA at her ancestral home, Atlantic View, and was the daughter of the late Charles D. Eichelberger and Emma LeCato Eichelberger. From birth throughout her teenage years, she spent time swimming, boating, fishing, and being mischievous in the little seaside village of Quinby. Emily graduated from the School of Nursing at Norfolk General Hospital and Richmond Professional Institute. She worked as a Public Health nurse, taught school for two years in Wachapreague, VA, and was a Navy nurse for eight years holding the title of Lt. Commander. Later, she worked at the Virginia Health Dept. as a family planning consultant and then retired in 1973 to fishing and swimming. She is survived by a niece, Patsy W. Gladden and her husband, Bobby, of Painter, VA; a nephew, Larry Eichelberger of Florida; one great-niece and three great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Rebecca McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Quinby Cemetery.
