Elvira H. Atkinson

Elvira Hastings Atkinson, 100, wife of the late James D. Atkinson and a resident of Belle Haven, VA, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox. A native of Accomack County, she was daughter of the late Earl Arthur Hastings and the late Susie Wessells Hastings. Mrs. Atkinson was a retired postal clerk at the Belle Haven Post Office and a member of the Belle Haven United Methodist Church where she served as church organist for many years. Mrs. Atkinson is survived by a son, William I. "Bill" Atkinson and his wife Pat of Exmore, VA, seven grandchildren, Nat H. Atkinson, Jr., J.P. Atkinson, Karl Lee Atkinson, Gary Atkinson, Gail Remaley, James H. Atkinson, Jr. and Carla Atkinson, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Atkinson was predeceased by three sons, Ernest Sidney Atkinson, Nathaniel Atkinson, Sr. and James Herman Atkinson, Sr., a granddaughter, Lynn S. Davis and two great-grandsons, Jared Atkinson and Scott Remaley. Funeral services will be held at the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jack D.
