Mrs. Elva Browder Lewis, 91, wife of the late J. Crawley Lewis and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. Born September 27, 1919 in Lawrenceville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Eldred Browder and the late Katherine Roberts Browder. Mrs. Lewis came to Cape Charles in March of 1956. She was a devoted wife to her husband Crawley who managed Peebles Department Store in Cape Charles until 1986. She was most noted as an outstanding homemaker and a faithful and loyal member of Cape Charles Baptist Church. For over fifty years she assisted and served as financial secretary at her church and taught a ladies adult Sunday School class. She also served for many years in the women's missionary groups of her church and local association. Above all else, she was an ardent follower and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Survivors include a son, Steve L. Lewis and his wife Deborah of Dover, FL; one sister, Jane Hines of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren, Benjamin Lewis and his wife Michele of Cape Charles, VA, Caleb Lewis of Tampa, FL, Rachel Allee and her husband Jonathan of Mechanicsville, VA, Nathan Lewis and his wife Nicole, Micah Lewis, and Seth Lewis, all of Dover; and one great granddaughter, Jordan Rae Lewis. Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by a daughter, Becky Lewis. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 31, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Cape Charles Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Goodrich and Dr. John M. Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cape Charles Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, 119 Pine Street, Cape Charles.
