Elmer Kenneth Ward, 85, husband of Gladys Beach Ward and a resident of Exmore, VA passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Exmore, he was the son of the late Golden Edward Ward, Sr. and the late Lola Ashby Ward. Mr. Ward was retired from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, member of the Exmore Baptist Church, graduate of F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, VA, WW II U.S. Army veteran, life member of the V.F.W., charter member of the WW II Memorial Society. The highlight of his employment was as a Mate/Pilot with the ferry operating between the Eastern Shore and Little Creek, VA. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by a son, Kenneth L. Ward and his wife, Pam, of Willis Wharf, VA; a daughter, Deborah Schweiker and her husband, William, of Exmore; a step daughter, Nancy Mapp of Exmore; a brother, Harold F. Ward of Belle Haven, VA; three grandchildren, Chris Holt and his wife, Sharon, Elaina Schweiker, Craig Holt and his wife, Nancy; a step grandchild, Lisa Hagan; two step great grandchildren, April Rowe, David Hagan; a step great-great grandson, Jace Hagan; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Ward was predeceased by two brothers, Golden E. Ward, Jr. and Herbert A. Ward. A Funeral service with Military Honors will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverends Jonathan Carpenter and Jack D. Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at Doughty Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 til 8:30.
