Elizabeth Hood O'Neill, 73, of Hillsborough, Belle Haven, VA, died January 6, 2006, in Shore Memorial Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C. on August 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Phyllis Harbaugh Hood of Belle Haven and Robert Whitney Hood of Kennebunkport, Maine. Her husband, Major John Eugene O'Neill, United States Marines, predeceased Mrs. O'Neill in 1971. She graduated from Longwood College in 1954 and began her career first as a teacher in Washington, D.C. and then Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. After her marriage, she moved to Hawaii, where she was employed by E.E. Black, Inc. After the death of her husband, she moved to the Eastern Shore with her children in 1977 and first worked for Kellam Distributing Company and Shore Stop in Belle Haven and later Shore Disposal. More recently, she began working for Best Western Eastern Shore Inn in Exmore and remained there until her death. A dedicated mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children, Michael Timothy O'Neill of Norfolk and Kelley Diane O'Neill of Belle Haven; and her grandchildren, B.J. Richardson, John Ross Doughty, and Joshua Richard Doughty, all of Belle Haven. Her sister Louise Hood Parish of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and her brother Robert Whitney Hood of Belle Haven; a half brother, Scott Hood;two half sisters, Jayne and Susan Hood; five nieces and three nephews; and ten great nieces and nephews also survive her. A memorial service will be conducted at Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore, Virginia at 11:00 AM Friday, January 13, 2006, after which the family will receive visitors at the residence of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitney Hood, Mill Point, 35170 Byrd's Mill Road, Belle Haven, Virginia. Burial will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shore Memorial Hospital, P.O.
