Eileen Ashton, 96, wife of the late Eugene G. Ashton, Sr. and a resident of Painter, VA, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, at Commonwealth Senior Living at the Eastern Shore, Onancock, VA. Born in New London, Connecticut and raised in Langhorne, PA, she married and raised her family in Bensalem, PA, prior to moving to Painter.
Eileen was the daughter of the late Paul C. Leonhauser and the late Margaret Burke Leonhauser and was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Onancock and was a United States Navy Reservist serving during World War II. Eileen was a homemaker who had worked at Villager Inc. in Bensalem after her children were grown. She loved crocheting and gardening and is remembered by her family as always sending cards for everyone’s birthday or wedding anniversary, making baby blankets for charities and other worthy causes, doing all kinds of puzzle books and volunteering with the sewing group at senior care centers on the Eastern Shore.
Eileen is survived by her children; Glenn R. Ashton and his wife, Marcy, of Hawley, PA, Eileen Ashton Courtney and her husband, Charles “Billy”, of Painter, Eugene G. Ashton, Jr. of Painter, and Steven E. Ashton and his wife, Elaine, of Hampstead, NC; one brother, Walter Leonhauser and his wife, Diane, of Levittown, PA; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Leonhauser of Levittown; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers; Col. Paul C. Leonhauser and his wife, Trudy, Robert Leonhauser, and Harry G. “Gigi” Leonhauser and his wife, Laura and two sisters, Margaret “May” Ridge and her husband, William, and Mary “Shorty” Morrow and her husband, Robert.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Vandegrift Cemetery, Bensalem, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to Kindness Matters Rescue at www.kindnessmattersrescue.org .
