Edwin Seymour. Jacob, Jr. passed away in Chesapeake Virginia, on September 8, 2006 at the age of 87. He was born July 14, 1919 in Norfolk Virginia, the son of Edwin Seymour and Noel Morris Jacob of Cape Charles, Virginia. He was most often affectionately called "Jake" by his friends. Mr. Jacob was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanette and his second wife Kay. Mr. Jacob did a stint with the Civilian Conservation Corps and during World War II, served on a US Coast Guard destroyer and made five North Atlantic crossings. After the war, he married Jeanette Violet Libert of East Hampton, New York and resided in East Hampton for almost 60 years. He was a master upholsterer, and throughout The Hamptons, was highly sought after as a restorer of antique furniture. Mr. Jacob loved all aspects of nature, especially the water, and as a gardener, was known for his giant tomatoes and sunflowers. He also enjoyed playing his harmonica and browsing through antique shops. Mr. Jacob moved to Chesapeake in August of 2005. He is survived by his two sons, Edwin S. Jacob. III of Chesapeake, Virginia, William C. Jacob of Greenville, North Carolina, a daughter, Marianna E. McCloskey of Alpharetta, Georgia, a sister, Mrs. Marianna (Mariabeth) Jacob Edwards, brother Noel Morris Jacob, both of Cape Charles, and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 11:00 am at Holmes Presbyterian Church in Cheriton, Virginia. The Reverend Ernest Gardner III will officiate.
