Mr. Edward V. "Ned" Stewart, 89, husband of the late Edna Brown Stewart and a resident of Redlands, California formerly of Exmore, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 20, 2007. A native of Concord Wharf, he was the son of the late Edward V. Stewart, Sr. and the late Edna Hirst Stewart. He retired from the Atlantic Richfield Company and served in the United States Navy and the Merchant Marines. He attended Virginia Tech for 2 years and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1951. Ned's passion was for sail boats. He designed and oversaw the building of many sailing yachts for friends with the understanding that he be able to use the yachts when he was in their port-of-call. He was a "Sea Scout"( a branch of Boy Scouts of America) and helped young boys grow into great men. He is survived by three daughters, Lexa S. McAdams of Alabama, Norma Stewart-Quinlan of Australia, and Carla Stewart-Coggins of Redlands, California; a brother, Harvey Stewart, a sister, Mary Dare Engel both of Exmore, Va.; and five grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, June 23rd at 11:00 AM from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery with the Rev. Tammy Estep officiating.
