Dr. Henry Palmer Wilson, Jr., 74, husband of Shirley Rue Wilson and a resident of Belle Haven, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home. A native of Hockessin, DE, he was the son of the late Henry P. Wilson and the late Marion G. Wilson.
Henry received his BS and Master's degrees from the University of Delaware and PhD in weed science from Rutgers University. He began work at the Virginia Truck and Ornamental Research Station, which became the Virginia Tech Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center, in Painter, VA. After 47 years as a professor of weed science and 13 years as the director of the Eastern Shore A.R.E.C. he retired from Virginia Tech as Professor Emeritus.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two children, Sara R. Wilson, Brian R. Wilson and his wife, Maura; a sister, Linda Wilson; a brother, Stephen Wilson and a granddaughter, Lula Wilson.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverend Mary Jimenez officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 or a charity of one's choice.
