Dr. Richard Lee Reed

Dr. Richard Lee Reed, 76, husband of Carolyn Ward Reed and a resident of Jamesville,VA, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 at his residence. A native of Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Mary Clouser Reed. Dr. Reed was a retired professor from William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ, where he served as dean of fine arts for several years. He received his BS and MS in Art Education from Kutztown University in PA and his Ed.D from Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Reed enjoyed teaching photography to young budding artists. He was an avid boater, being the happiest when he was captaining his boat AARTVARK on the Chesapeake Bay. He was a former commander and member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Other than his wife, survivors include two sons, David Reed of Wayne, NJ and Philip Reed of Atlanta, GA, a sister, Doris Schilpp of Reading, PA A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the S.P.C.A. Animal Shelter, P.O.
