Dr. Robert E. Baldwin, of Belle Haven, passed away in his home Wednesday, Feb 6th . Born in Emsworth, PA, he graduated from Waynesburg College in 1952 and received his masters and doctorate degrees from University of West Virginia. He served in the Army Signal Corp and was stationed with NATO in Paris, France. He moved with his family to the Eastern Shore in 1963 to be the plant pathologist at the Va. Truck and Ornamental Research Station in Painter, which later became Virginia Tech Agricultural Research and Extension Center. He became the Director of the Station in 1984 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the American Phytopathology Society, Belle Haven United Methodist Church, Citizens for A Better Eastern Shore and National Rifle Association Golden Eagle Member. He served on the Belle Haven Town Council, The Regional Advisory Council of Hermitage on the Eastern Shore and various agricultural and nursery organizations on the Shore. He had a love of hunting, fishing, swimming, gardening, woodworking and photography. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Baldwin, his daughter Lauralee Goldstein and husband Billy, daughter Roberta Webb and husband Scott, grandsons Zachary and Luke and grand dogs Shiloh, Shadow and Sable. Arrangements are by the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Memorial donations maybe made to the Shore Cancer Center in Nassawadox, Va.
