Mr. Dorris Wilson Fauber (94) of Cape Charles, Virginia died at his home on Jacobia Lane on October 31st. He was born September 7, 1920 in Amherst County, Virginia, the son of the late Massie Hewitt Fauber and Mary Frances Carpenter Fauber. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Amanda Ann Powell Fauber and three sisters Audrey "Peg" Campbell, Mary "Zid" Brandon, and Frances "Beese" Beverley. He is survived by three brothers Bernard Massey Fauber of Pauma Valley, California, Melvin Cecil Fauber and Fred Lloyd Fauber, both of Lynchburg, VA ; four children, Pamela F. Kupiec and husband John of Mathews, VA; Doris F. Strickler and husband Michael of Lexington, VA; David W. Fauber and wife Donna of Oyster, VA; Michael P. Fauber and wife Connie of Dallas, TX; and eight grandchildren; Scott Kupiec, Matthew Strickler, Amanda Green, Battaile Fauber, Joseph Fauber, Abigail Fauber, Caleb Fauber, and Ruth Dean; and four great grandchildren. Mr. Fauber and his bride to be met in 1942, prior to him being sent overseas for World War II, and they "courted" by mail for three years. "She was the prettiest girl I had ever seen, and I knew I loved her from the start," he said. They married in February 1946. Their journey together paralleled his career with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia and later with AT&T, from which he retired in 1985. For nearly the past thirty years, home has been on Plantation Creek, "The Farm" as it was nicknamed. They welcomed, without reservation, their children, spouses, grandchildren, and friends of these family members. Holidays from Christmas through Thanksgiving were anticipated for weeks in advance and always exceeded expectations. With his family, friends, and colleagues, Mr. Fauber always thought of others before himself. His sage advice was sought by all, and he was the consummate mentor. Having grown up during the Great Depression, he understood the value of hard work, instilling that ethic in his children, while he and Ann raised them with an unconditional love that has shaped their lives. His Christian faith sustained him, and he and his family were active in church activities at Reveille United Methodist Church in Richmond and Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. For the past 28 years he and his wife were members of Holmes Presbyterian Church in Cheriton, Virginia. He was a Sunday school teacher and an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. "Well done good and faithful servant"(Matthew 25:21). A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Saturday November 15 at Holmes Presbyterian Church.
