Mrs. Dorothy Sowers Duer, 84, wife of the late Abel Constant Duer, III and a resident of the Hermitage in Onancock, Virginia, formerly of Scarborough's Neck, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2005. A native of Cheriton, she was the daughter of the late T. B. Sowers and the late Lurline Tanner Sowers Bagwell. She was retired from the Virginia Employment Commission and was a member of Craddockville United Methodist Church and Ye Accawmacke Garden Club. Mrs. Duer is survived by two daughters, Jean Duer Drummond and her husband Roy, and Kerry Duer Klein and her husband Nick, a son, Abel Constant Duer, IV and his wife Lesa of Scarborough's Neck, Va.; a brother Earl Thomas Bagwell and his wife Yvonne of Smith Beach, Va.; five grandchildren, Kerry Katherine Klein of Roanoke, Va., John Klein of Jacksonville, Fla., Kevin Klein of Charlottesville, Va., Darcie Duer of Farmville, Va. and Amanda Duer of Scarborough's Neck, Va. She was predeceased by two brothers, Wallace Lee Sowers and Troy Benson Sowers. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 4:00 PM from the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with the Rev. Joe McKnight officiating. Interment will be private.
