Doris Freeland Wilcox, 94, wife of the late Captain Burr Curtis Wilcox, Jr. and a resident of Franktown, VA, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, VA. A native of Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Wilber Washington Freeland and the late Freda Petry Freeland. She was a graduate of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA, retired Science and Home Economics Teacher, former Shore Memorial Hospital Board Member, member of Hungars Episcopal Church and was church organist at Hungars Episcopal Church and Holmes Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three children, Pamela Wilcox Trumble of Rockville, MD, Carol Wilcox Wells and her husband, Robert, of Hot Springs, NC, Burr Curtis Wilcox, III and his wife, Mary, of Nederland, CO; nine grandchildren, Thomas L. Trumble, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Catherine Frederika Davis of Dillsburg, PA, Burr Oliver McLawhorn of Wilmington, NC, John Aaron McLawhorn of Eden, NC, Burr Curtis Wilcox, IV of Texas, Bruce Dale Lincoln of Springfield, OR, Petty Officer First Class Lance D. Fairchild of Santa Paula, CA, Annette Wells Bower of Macon, GA, Sheila Wells Williamson of Pleasant Garden, NC and eighteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Hungars Episcopal Church with Reverends Daniel Crockett and Harry Crandall officiating. Interment will follow in Hungars Episcopal Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Doris and Burr Wilcox Memorial Music Fund, c/o Hungars Episcopal Church, PO Box 367, Eastville, VA 23347.
