Mr. Delzon Louis Kingett, 84, passed away at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital on Monday, November 13, 2017. He died peacefully after a sudden illness with family by his side. He was born in Staten Island, NY to Marguerite and Frank Kingett. He lived in Bridgewater, NJ for 30 years, retiring to Machipongo for 20 years. He and his wife, Jane, attended the same schools, P.S. 3 in Pleasant Plains and Tottenville High School in Staten Island. He joined the Navy in 1952 and serviced the squadron captain's plane aboard the aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea, Randolph and Lake Champlain. He had many memorable experiences; the fleet went to Brazil and other ports in France, Spain and Morocco. He retired from Office Business Systems in Fairfield, NJ, after 33 years where he was the Director of Service.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Huguenot Lodge No. 0381, Staten Island, NY. He always had a boat, starting at age 11. Loved sailing in his Thistle until he had his family and got a Grady White. He was an avid saltwater fisherman. Custom wrapped his own surf rods and caught lots of fish on vacation in Virginia. He enjoyed reading historical novels and authors that painted with words. He was a gentleman, caring and thoughtful, always remembered birthdays and special occasions. He had a quick mind and loved life, his wife and children. He was the best friend and greatest husband anyone could have.
He was a member of Johnson's Methodist Church. He cooked their Clam Fritter Supper and for the Mother's Day Breakfast.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank Kingett. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Jane, of 60 years; one son, Delzon Scott Kingett (wife Tracy Marcus); step grandsons Justin Brown and Evan Brown; two daughters, Jacqueline Anne Kingett and Jane Kingett MacArthur (husband John); grandson, John A. MacArthur and granddaughter, Jennifer E. MacArthur.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Johnson's United Methodist Church,11175 Bayside Road, Machipongo, VA, with Reverend Clarence Bowen officiating and Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Saint Mark United Methodist Church, 465 Paxson Avenue, Hamilton Square, NJ, with Senior Pastor Robert L. Marks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnson's United Methodist Church (Payback Foundation), c/o Marge Kacik, 12337 Trout Lane, Machipongo, VA 23405.
