David Lee Smith

David Lee Smith, 61, husband of Betty York Smith, and a resident of Hadlock, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, Virginia. A native of Willis Wharf, Virginia and a life long resident of the Eastern Shore, he was the son of the late Garland Thomas Smith and the late Dorothy Virginia Bowen. David loved people and spending time with his friends and family. Many knew him as "Big Dave". He was a painter by trade, but a "jack of all trades" by nature. He loved the outdoors, whether he was fishing or crabbing off the dock. He also loved the birds and all animals especially dogs. He enjoyed cooking and eating good food, watching television, listening to country music, eating homemade brownies, riding the back roads of the Eastern Shore in his pickup truck, the color blue, jello, vacations with family, laughing out loud, trains, and playing bingo. Other than his wife, he is survived by a brother, Larry Thomas Smith and his wife Anita of Onley, Virginia, a sister, Mona Lisa Turner and her husband Wayne of Belle Haven, Virginia, a very special brother-in-law Paul William York and his wife Melody of Herrin, Illinois, several aunts, uncles, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and his loyal four-legged friend Penny. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Special thanks from the family to those who were so faithful with cards, visits, and prayers. Your kindness will not be forgotten. A sincere thank you to Dr. Krebs and the staff at Shore Cancer Center, the staff of Shore Memorial Hospital, and Hospice for the endless hours of love and compassion they give to so many. Funeral services will be conducted for David Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the graveside at Belle Haven Cemetery with the Reverend Johnathan Carpenter and Kemmie Dize officiating.
