David Steve Slaw, III, 43, a resident of Nassawadox, VA, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at his residence. A native of Silver Beach, VA, he was the son of Susan C. Prettyman and her husband, Jimmy, of Silver Beach and the late David S. Slaw, Jr. He was a graduate of Longwood University, duck carver, former manager of Assawoman Outfitters and member of Ducks Unlimited. In addition to his mother and step father, he is survived by four step brothers, Lee Prettyman of Florida, Jay Prettyman of Norfolk, VA, Greg Lewis and his wife, Diane, of Chester, VA, Keith Lewis of Richmond, VA; his maternal grandmother, Claudia S. Custis of Belle Haven, VA; three aunts, Joan Durvin and her husband, Ray, of Mechanicsville, VA, Susan Redford and her husband, Jeff, of Mechanicsville, Bonnie Prettyman Nottingham of Cape Charles, VA; two uncles, Winston J. Custis, Jr. of Belle Haven, Donnie Slaw and his wife, Janet, of Crewe, VA; one great aunt, Margaret Slaw Williams of Kenbridge, VA; a special nephew, Kevin Prettyman of Silver Beach and many cousins he was very fond of. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Winston J. "Dynamite" Custis; paternal grandparents, Steve and Marjorie Ellett Slaw and step grandparents, C.J. Prettyman, Jr. and Evelyn Walker Prettyman. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverend Alex Joyner officiating.
