Catherine Campbell Bundick, 89, of Painter, a gentle and beloved soul, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 24th, 2005. Known to most as "Miss Kitty," she passed away peacefully at her residence with her faithful companion Wrinkles the pug by her side. The wife of the late John Edward Bundick, Miss Kitty was born on February 20, 1916 in Wachapreague, the daughter of Joshua and Josephine Travis Campbell. Many will remember her and her deceased spouse J. Edward as the proprietors of the J.E. Bundick Variety Store on Railroad Avenue in Painter. She is survived by her only child Josephine Bundick Hearne and her beloved son-in-law Stephen J. Hearne, both of Painter. Her life was also made joyous by her three grandchildren John Edward Hearne, now of Kosciusko, Mississippi, Sara "Kate" Hearne Gibson, of Painter, and Stacy Brewington Hearne Dobbs, now of Virginia Beach. Additionally she is survived by Caleb Dobbs, grandson-in-law, and her three great granddaughters Hannah Grace Jackson Gibson and Lily Joy Campbell Gibson, daughters of Kate, and Ava Elizabeth Dobbs, daughter of Stacy, as well as her brother Frank Campbell and his wife Helen, of Virginia Beach, and numerous nieces and nephews. Miss Kitty was predeceased by her siblings Sarah C. Bell, Emily C. Drummond, and Joe W. Campbell. Miss Lily Francis Holden of Painter, companion and caregiver was also loved dearly and cherished by Miss Kitty. All who knew Miss Kitty were impressed by her loving attitude and kind, caring nature. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the absolute lights of her life and brought limitless joy to her days. Her pug Wrinkles was her constant "shadow" and kept her company faithfully after the passing of her husband. One characteristic of her personality those close to her always cherished was her childlike playfulness and sense of humor. She was an avid reader of Eastern Shore history and loved to recount stories of her childhood adventures growing up on the Shore. A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 27 at 2pm at Painter Garrison's United Methodist Church on Main Street in Painter. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the PGUMC Building Fund, c/o Connie Campbell, Treasurer, Painter, VA, 23420. Arrangements by Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.
