Carolyn Gladden Harrison
July 16, 1932 — November 3, 2015
Carolyn Gladden Harrison, 83, wife of the late Joseph Nuel Harrison and a resident of Birdsnest, VA, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015. A native of Birdsnest, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Russell Gladden and the late Caroline Ester Downing Gladden. She was the former co-owner and bookkeeper of Virginia LP Gas Company and a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church. Although she worked from the time she graduated high school until illness forced her to retire at the age of 75, her life was truly defined by her love for and devotion to her family.
She is survived by two children, Joey G. Harrison of Belle Haven, VA, and Caroline H. Bloxom and her husband, Richard, of Pocomoke, MD; a brother, Robert Gladden and his wife, Gloria, of Birdsnest; a sister, Rosebel Miller Pruitt and her husband, Thomas, of Melfa, VA; a sister-in-law, Alice Brady and her husband, Rudy, of Birdsnest; three grandchildren, Amanda H. Dougherty and her husband, Sean, of Jacobus, PA, Joseph E. Harrison of Birdsnest, Megan E. Harrison of Belle Haven; a great granddaughter, Claire Ellen Dougherty and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Annie G. Bell and two brothers, C.R. "Bud" Gladden, Jr. and Garland Gladden.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 2:30 PM at Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery, 9292 Seaside Road, Marionville, VA with Reverend Jonathan Carpenter and Reverend Paul Oh officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Belle Haven United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 37, Belle Haven, VA 23306.
