Carmela Sacco

December 25, 1927 — March 16, 2018

Carmela Flora Ioli Sacco, 90, wife of Anthony Peter Sacco and a resident of Cape Charles, VA, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at her residence. A native of Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo Ioli and the late Vincenza Varelli Ioli. Her life is best described by the following words written by her loving husband.

"We were married 69 years, just short of 70 years of being together devoted to each other with happy times and sad. Carmela was very beautiful, she turned down a screen test for Hollywood, her picture was displayed in Times Square, Broadway, N.Y.C.

She was a loving mother to our son Anthony who died in July 1972.Carmela worked for Louis Sherry Ice Cream and Candy Company in Queens, NY, in the 40's, she later became skilled in marketing paint brushes, and then ran a woman's clothing shop, A&C, that attracted some important people, like Geraldine Ferraro who ran as a candidate for Vice President of the United States of America with the Walter Mondale for President Campaign. Carmela would select clothing for her to wear in the campaign. Carmela and I traveled a lot, all of Europe and Italy three times.

Carmela Flora was a Cub Scout Den Mother and the children loved her cookies and milk. She decided after our son was taken away from us at the age of 17 she would become a home keeper and take care of me and her mother, Vincenza Ioli. We took a few trips to the Eastern Shore and she loved it, so we moved here in 1989. She met new friends like Diane Langley and that made her very happy. She enjoyed the fact that we moved to a place with great history, General Robert E. Lee; President George Washington; Martha Dandridge, who was first married to Daniel Parke Custis and then George Washington.

The grief of our son's death was never forgotten by either of us and that took a big toll on Carmela.

Because I served in the military during World War II, she will be buried with our son in Long Island National Cemetery, Long Island, NY, and when I die we will all three be together again"
