Capt. William G. Evans

Capt. William G. Evans, 86, husband of Alva Grace Evans, and a resident of Cape Charles, formerly of Cape May, NJ, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Shore Memorial Hospital. A native of Hickory Swamp, PA, Capt. Evans was the son of the late Kenneth G. Evans and the late Hazel Raczkowski Evans Ward. He retired as a superintendent of The Delaware River & Bay Authority and was a former ferry boat captain. He was a Deacon of Cheriton Baptist Church. Other than his wife, he is survived by four children; Diane E. Cameron & her husband Buddy of Leesburg, Va, Lana E. Nochowitz & her husband Marvin of Downer's Grove, IL, Rev. Mark W. Evans & his wife Pam of Greenville, SC, and Joseph W. Evans & his wife Irene of Cape Charles, VA; one sister, Emma Moscatello of Onancock, VA; two stepchildren, Garry Beaman & his wife Barbara of Rocky Mount, VA, and Linda Apter & her husband Andy of Delray Beach, FL; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and four step grandchildren. Capt. Evans was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Hudgins Evans. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the Cheriton Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Peterson and Rev. Mark W. Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Cape Charles Cemetery.
