James Edward Cherrix, better known as Buddy, 73, husband of the late Ernestine Parker Cherrix and a resident of Exmore, VA, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at his residence. A native of Tasley, VA, he was the son of the late Dorsey Edward Cherrix and the late Lena Diggs Cherrix Thornes. He was maintenance supervisor for Tankard Nurseries for over 35 years, former Boy Scout leader for Exmore Troop 314 and member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church. He is survived by two sons, Mark Edward Cherrix and his wife, Michelle, of Spanaway, WA, Jeffery L. Smith and his wife, Dedra, of Cleveland, NC; two sisters, Mary Frances Merritt of Atlantic Beach, FL, Shirley Ann Smith of Exmore; a brother, Charles William Thornes, Sr. of Frankford, DE; and two grandchildren, Katlyn Smith Martell and Ryan Jeffery Smith. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverends Jack D. Pruitt and Paul Oh officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery.
